The devil is in the detail!
July 13, 20201959 Chevy 3100 Apache Panel Truck
Mike came to us looking to get a little bit of help to lock in the final direction of his sweet ’59 Apache Chevrolet Panel Truck. The build was well underway, but he hadn’t been able to lock in the colour combo that he was after or work out what wheels he was going to run. So we virtually built his car in 3D and trialed all of his ideas to see which combo worked best.
Now Mike’s truck is not your run-of-the-mill truck. It’s been air bagged to give it that unmistakable and the rear has been modified by deleting the big rear bumper and re-shaping the rear panel to integrate his number plate as well as some later model Cadillac tail lamps.
So first thing, we went about making sure our 3D model matched the existing panel work on his truck.
Mike also already had a set of 20″ Boyd Coddington ‘Junkyard Dog’ wheels on the truck, but had been considering running a set of black 20″ Smoothies. So we had both sets of wheels modeled up so he could see which ones he liked most.
In all honesty – they both looked sweet, and if he didn’t already have the Junkyard Dog’s on the car he would have been in for a very tough decision!
Colour wise he was keen to see a few options, solid greys, metallic and solid browns all in a range of gloss satin and matte finishes contrasted by whites/creams and beige’s and trialed with matte black, gloss black or chrome bumpers & grilles.

That’s the beauty of designing in a virtual 3D environment, at the click of a button we can see how all these combos may look and virtually walk around the car to see if its suits from all angles.
